USING CANVA FOR PRINT
Step 1: Go to Canva and create an account.
Step 2: Choose a premade template
or
Select “Custom Size”
Enter your finish size dimension in “mm” in the “Custom Size” dialog
Step 3: Switch on your Bleed Margins
go to: File – Settings – Show print bleed
The new edge additional area is your bleed margin. The inside line shows the finished size – outside the line is the bleed zone. NOTE: the bleed will be cut off, but is required for a clean finish to your print.
NOTE 1: Do NOT add text or important images close to the bleed area – stay 2-3mm inside the line to ensure what you are placing does not get cut off. An image can go into the bleed margin – but be aware that it will be partially cut away. You can setup guides by going to File – Settings – Add Guides, or simple left click and drag from the horizontal or vertical ruler on the edge of the design window onto your image.
NOTE 2 – Borders: If you need to include a border on your design – please ensure it is at least 4-5mm wide inside the trim. Due to digital print shift / and trimming your borders will very likely not be exactly the same width (anything up to 1mm shift) so with anything less than around 4mm this variation will be very obvious.
The best option is to avoid borders all together if possible.
Step 4: Downloading your Print Ready file.
For print purposes, to get the best result use the following download options:
File – Download
File type – PDF Print
Select Crop marks and Bleed
Do NOT select “Flatten PDF”
Do NOT download as PNG or JPG images for printing as these will not be sufficient quality. These formats are suitable for web/digital use only.
